Regal Inn Gateway Umhlanga

This was my second stay, and everything was as expected. What really stood out was how the team helped after I left my laptop in the room while rushing to see a family member in hospital. I called about six hours after checking out. They confirmed they had it and helped get it back to me. Thanks to the housekeeping team!

The hotel is within walking distance of Gateway, though Umhlanga beach is a few kilometers away. There's free underground parking, and the pools are heated, which is nice depending on the weather. Reception staff were quite friendly, but I didn't get greetings from the other staff. The rooms felt a bit dated, and breakfast was awful and flavorless. The omelet had big chunks of pepper, and the sausages lacked flavor. Drinks at the restaurant were severely overpriced, R80 for a single JW Black or R40 for a single Tanqueray gin. Those prices seem over the top for the location, around a 500% profit on JW whiskey. Come on Southern Sun, be a bit realistic. Restaurant service was poor too. The Stormers and their entourage were staying there, but other patrons shouldn't be neglected. Our waiter on Friday night just left without saying a word.

Ameera and Phumlani went above and beyond to accommodate us and make sure we could enjoy the dining facilities. Thanks to both of them for the exceptional service. It's service like this that keeps bringing me back over the years.

The breakfast spread was awesome, and the staff hosting it were so pleasant. The venue is ideally placed near shopping malls and the beach, with customer service that really stands out. The one snag is that the heated pool area closes at 20.00pm, leaving kids without recreation at the venue after that.
