Kololo Game Reserve

Kololo was a great choice for our family with three kids, aged 4, 2 and 0. Manager Tanya and the staff did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. The accommodation was clean and spacious, with a kitchen and living room. The pool and playground were fantastic, and the restaurant had a big basket of toys and a kids’ menu that our children loved. One staff member even walked around with the baby so I could finish my breakfast coffee. We did two game drives and saw lions, zebras, rhinos, elephants and hippos. Kololo arranged a babysitter for our baby, so we could enjoy the drive with the older two. They can adjust departure times and keep a suitable distance from animals for families with small kids. The food and service were great too. Very family friendly, and a must if you’re visiting South Africa with kids.

We loved the bush walks around the property and having family time at this lovely game lodge. The staff were welcoming, the views were beautiful, and the evenings were quiet and full of stars. The game drive was wonderful too.

Jo was the best ranger, and we saw plenty on the walking tour through the private reserve, including things we spotted ourselves. Then we went on a three hour walk with Jo in the Big Five reserve. Such a unique experience. The lodge is amazing, comfortable without being pretentious, and respectful of nature. They were very flexible about breakfast times and things like that. The food was delicious, with a homemade feel and good ingredients.

Being able to walk around the reserve on foot felt surreal. Our ranger Joe was so kind and adventurous, and we saw lots of animals both on the Big Five tour and in the hotel reserve. The staff were the kindest, and our stay at Kololo was such a welcoming, extraordinary experience. I can’t recommend a better reserve for seeing the beauty of Africa.
