After visiting four other bays on Lake Tanganyika, I found Isanga Bay the most affordable for rooms, food, and drinks. The hosts are especially welcoming, and the views are magnificent. Soft sand underfoot and plenty to do made it easy to relax and enjoy the stay. It’s a truly special, comfortable place for a vacation.

Peter, the manager, made us feel like friends from the moment we first got in touch, even before we arrived. The staff were professional, and we enjoyed the restaurant food. We spent two lovely nights camping right by the lake, with nice ablutions. If you’re not on an all-inclusive package, there are three ways to reach the lodge. We were told the road is in terrible condition, and we met someone in Mbala who had turned back. Isanga’s private boat takes an hour, if your budget allows. The public boat takes about four hours and costs 100 kwachas per person, one way. Thanks, Peter!

We brought our camping gear and mostly cooked for ourselves, so I can’t say anything about the meals. This was our second visit, ten years after the first. The bay is beautiful, and the rustic facilities suit us, so we had a great time. I couldn’t see any new developments since our last stay, and some good things were missing. It gave me the impression that the owners aren’t interested in improving the facilities. Still, if you’re there for the beach, swimming, or somewhere pleasant to spend time with friends, you’ll be satisfied.

The managers, Yolande and Morkel, were lovely, hospitable, and accommodating, and the staff were very friendly. Prices were affordable too. We had amazing weather, swam all day, and enjoyed a delicious restaurant meal of fresh fish fillets. The place felt like being on an island somewhere. I’d definitely come back!

Yolande, Morkel, and their daughters welcomed us off the boat with a refreshing drink. We had an amazing week, swimming, canoeing, snorkeling, and doing a bit of fishing. Thanks for going the extra mile to get fresh fish, it was such a treat. The weather was amazing too. Well done, and I hope we can come back.
