Hotel Comtes d'Urgell

The music from a DJ directly below our room went on until 03:00, and with a 07:00 departure the next morning, sleeping was impossible. We told reception and asked to move, but no alternative was offered and nobody proposed compensation. A quiet night is a basic expectation in a hotel, and we didn't get one. We had specifically requested a quiet room in the booking form. The hotel has now received three emails from us, but we still haven't had a personal reply. There was also no mention in the reservation process, confirmation, or check-in emails of a New Year's Eve lobby party with a DJ. We're still waiting for personal contact and appropriate compensation.

Breakfast was very good and reasonably priced, and the hotel itself was otherwise quite nice. The main warning is the noise. You can hear your neighbors as though they're in your own room. The bathrooms also don't fit the rest of the hotel's character. They're extremely outdated, although they work properly, and that lowered my rating. The rooms left something to be desired as well.

I would go back, now that I know what to expect and can compare prices a little more carefully. The unexpected costs were the main issue. Parking was full and should have been included, so I ended up paying about 17.5€ for parking. I also mistakenly thought breakfast was included. It costs an extra 11€, and the local tourist tax is 1.75€ per day. They didn't give me a receipt for that, so maybe they keep the money, who knows really.

For a 3-star hotel, this was exactly right, with one of the best quality-to-price ratios I've come across. The location and facilities are good, and the staff are welcoming. The cleaning staff were prompt and attentive. Martina at the bar deserves a special mention too, for being available and professional. I'd definitely recommend staying here.
