Gateway Hotel

It’s in the “little India” quarters, with lots of computer and electronics shops nearby, plus plenty of Asian restaurants. It’s far from modern Dubai. The hotel itself is very good, with large rooms and amenities, a very good breakfast, and very good prices.

The staff were polite and kind, and we didn’t really dislike anything. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and they cleaned it whenever we needed. The tub looked a bit old, but the bathroom was clean. Breakfast leaned heavily toward Indian food rather than a global selection, as did the other guests. My only real annoyance was the location: I didn’t feel very comfortable walking around that busy area, though it is close to the bus and metro stations.

For a low price, it’s acceptable for a few days, especially if you bring earplugs. I managed to check in early, and the staff were very nice. Still, the hotel is old and worn and doesn’t feel hygienic. The soundproofing is practically nonexistent: I could hear bathroom noises from the neighboring room through the ventilation shaft as if they were in my own room.

The hygiene was terrible, and everything looked dirty and poorly maintained, as if it hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time. There were insects all over the bed and crawling around the bathroom, so I couldn’t relax or feel comfortable at all. My stay at Hotel Gateway was extremely disappointing and very unpleasant. I strongly do NOT recommend it. If you care about cleanliness and basic comfort, stay far away from Hotel Gateway.
