There are quiet beaches if you want them, a kids club, water sports and a safe sea. I felt really relaxed here, even after seeing the video of a jellyfish eating another fish! There are netted areas too. x

The changing rooms were brilliant, and the food was lovely. I especially liked being able to switch over to the pool once I’d had enough of the ocean. Great beach, too.

The project began in 2001, with a sand mound dredged from beneath the sea forming the island’s base and a huge rock wall around it. Each rock reportedly weighs about a ton and helps manage the breakwater. After the sand was piled up, around 2,000 holes were reportedly drilled and filled with more sand to stabilize the ground and keep it from sinking. Artificial coral reefs and further breakwaters were added as protection against erosion. The island is shaped like a palm with 17 fronds. Bridges connect it, and there are undersea tunnels and metro stations. Scientists keep exploring more for this project.

In the winter months, it’s a great place to stroll along the beach. You’re surrounded by the Palm crescent and its hotels, with lovely views toward Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa in the distance.
