Kalemi Hotel

We could leave the car at the hotel and walk to Gjirokastër's historic center, which is only a short distance away. Breakfast was very good, with fresh choices in a cozy room. What made the visit personal was the owner sharing stories about the building and its antiques, along with the kind, welcoming staff. The hotel is small and set in a characterful historic building. Its old architectural charm sits comfortably alongside modern conveniences, including comfortable beds and a clean, well-equipped bathroom. We loved the unique feel and hospitality, and would like to return.

A traditional place with lovely garden views, clean rooms, and great staff. The homemade breakfast was the best. I'll definitely come back.

Our room was wonderful, with a huge bathroom, and breakfast was brought to our table in the morning. The staff were charming, friendly, and efficient. It's a perfect mix of old and new. I only wish we'd had longer here, it was our favorite hotel on the tour.

Breakfast was lovely on the idyllic outdoor terrace beneath a huge rose arch. We seemed to be the only guests, and the staff gave us heartfelt care and attention. The converted Hotel Kalemi has a pleasant feel from another era, with traditional wood around the walls and ceilings. Our room was nice, with plenty of fresh air from the windows, and a slightly tired but decent-sized bathroom. For the drive, I'd suggest setting your GPS for the Ethnography Museum, then following the signs to the hotel. The route is tricky, but worth sticking with. Gijrokaster was the next stop on our Albanian road trip, an interesting city with a fascinating past and a delightful old town.
