Hotel Portokali

The waiters were the only positive part, nice and polite guys who helped me around. The rest of the stay at Hotel Portokali was one of the worst I’ve had, and the 90 € per night was absolutely not worth it. The old, neglected property felt unsafe. The bathroom was dirty and worn out. The toilet wobbled when I sat down, and water was leaking dangerously close to an electrical lamp. During the entire two-day stay, nobody cleaned the room, changed towels, or emptied the trash. The mattresses smelled musty and sour, as if they had not been cleaned or replaced for years. There was no hair dryer or proper toiletries, and the soap was clearly watered down. One balcony chair was so old that it broke when I sat on it, badly scratching my back. It felt like a mess and a safety hazard that had been ignored for years.

The hotel was almost empty during the off-season, so the atmosphere was wonderfully quiet. It is right on the seafront, and a very friendly family welcomed us. Our room was spotless, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was one of the freshest and best we’ve ever had. We were practically alone in the hotel, which made the stay especially peaceful.

At 6:30 PM, we arrived to find that the room booked for four people was not available, even though I had contacted the property the day before and been told everything was ready. They offered a tiny room for three and said a portable cot would be brought, but the cot was not available, leaving the room unusable. The bathroom was only 1m x 1m, and the staff were unhelpful. By 7 PM, we had to search for another place to stay.

Beach access is directly across the street, which was very convenient. This family-run hotel and restaurant also offered an excellent welcome and service. We visited in May, when it wasn’t too busy. The room was clean and pleasant, with air conditioning, a fridge, and a small balcony. Breakfast was generous, and the stay was excellent value for money 👍🏼👌🏼.
