Hotel Tatzati

The place had recently been refurbished and was clean, with a perfect central location close to everything. Breakfast was good and the people were friendly and nice. Good value, and a very good experience overall.

The room was lovely, with a nice balcony, but breakfast was poor. Here’s what happened to us. We left for a day trip and, when we returned, the key we’d left at reception was missing. Nobody at the hotel could find it. Eventually they worked out another solution, and thankfully nobody had entered our room and our belongings were still there. We never saw anyone at reception, so this kind of thing seemed possible. The next day we went to Corfu for two days and one night. I spoke with the owner and booked another night. But when we got back from Corfu, the hotel was full and they said we hadn’t booked. At 8 PM we had to find somewhere else to stay. That was our experience. When the hotel is empty, you may be treated like the main guest, but otherwise you could end up sleeping on the street. I felt no respect or trust toward them. This has never happened to me anywhere else in the world.

For the price, it’s a cheap place to sleep, and there’s little else positive to say. The beds were fine and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the washroom made things difficult: the sink leaked and the shower didn’t work. Breakfast wasn’t memorable.

The room was new and clean, and the hotel was okay, but communicating with the owners was difficult because they spoke almost no English. At first it seemed manageable. Dinner was supposed to cost 5 euros, but I couldn’t talk things through with the woman at the restaurant, who didn’t speak English, so we had to pay full price. There was no one at reception at night, though the door stayed open 24 hours. One evening I came back late to find young people drinking, playing cards, and making noise on the reception sofas. I didn’t feel safe. Not a good experience.
