The hotel is on the third floor and has been nicely reconstructed, while most of the rest of the building is more or less a ruin. Don’t let the exterior put you off: it’s a hotel building, with only the letters HO left as a reminder of its past. There are taxi stands and Mashrutkas out front, and a nice restaurant 100m uphill. A great place to stay in Sanahin.

There’s no elevator, which is a drawback if you’re carrying a large suitcase. Otherwise, our room was very comfortable, and the host was super friendly and helpful. The reception room is beautifully decorated. If you book directly with him instead of through an online booking site, you get a 20% discount.

Inside, the Sanahin hotel is fabulous, and it’s in the tallest building in town, near a famous monastery. Just be aware that they only take cash.

The owner Lilit was one of the nicest people we’ve met. She helped us with everything we needed and keeps the accommodation in lovely condition.

We arrived without any local money, so our friendly host let us pay in USD. The room was clean and tidy, and perfectly fine. What more do you need?
