Guest House Mary

We were so sad to leave Mary and her mother. The guest house feels like a little paradise, with very clean, comfortable bedrooms and a generous, royal breakfast. Mary’s mother cooks delicious food, and I really recommend eating there. We loved them both and will definitely come back.

Haghpat monastery is just a short walk from the house, so you can visit at different times. Mary treats her guests like family, and the home is full of history and artefacts. The beds are comfy, with lovely lace bedsheets, and the food is delicious. Mary can help with travel plans or special requests, and you can learn about the culture or hear her or her mother play the piano.

The Haghpat Monastery is only a short walk away, and if you’re lucky, Mary may play the grand piano for you. Her house is cosy and comfortable, with rooms that feel welcoming. It’s also like a family museum, full of historic artefacts, and the food from her kitchen is amazing, including dishes cooked by her 84-year-old mother. Mary is an angel. Stay with her for a special experience, and give her a big tip, she deserves it.

I’m only 163cm, but the traditional Armenian bed and large European pillow still made it feel a bit short. The very hot shower was great on the two cold days we stayed. The towels and sheets were hard, and meals had few options and weren’t generous. The bread wasn’t fresh. The soup was very good, though, and tea and coffee were good when requested. We also had lovely sweet pancakes once at breakfast.
