The views over the mountains near the Armenia–Georgia border are breathtaking, and the Haghpat Monastery complex nearby is remarkable, with several ancient churches. The village is charming and worth a look. Haghpat Hotel was also incredible value, with free tea and coffee and service available 24/7. We were especially touched when Mary’s partner lent us money to buy souvenirs from the local market ladies outside the hotel. We paid it back at checkout. Later, when our vehicle needed coolant, the team helped us find some locally. Those thoughtful gestures say a lot about their generosity. Mary, her partner and their bartender Enoch made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The food was outstanding, and Mary makes many of the things served there herself, including homemade cheese, jam and soup. Everything we tried was fresh, authentic and delicious. We had a wonderful stay at Haghpat Hotel and would happily recommend it. If you’re travelling between Yerevan and Tbilisi, spend some time in Haghpat. It deserves more visitors, and we look forward to coming back. Thanks to Mary, her partner and Enoch for making our visit so memorable.

The monastery is just about twenty metres from the hotel, and it felt truly sacred and spiritual. The complex has several buildings and is around a thousand years old. It felt as if it had barely been touched. The village is quaint, and I’d guess it’s about fifteen hundred metres above sea level. We walked around and saw happy children, families and cows roaming. The mountain view from our nice room was beautiful, and it had a great en suite and shower. The food, tea, local wine and juice were fantastic. Everything was organic and grown in the village, and the cheese, jam and soup were homemade. We found the place by chance after our car ran out of coolant just before we arrived, and we were worried. The hosts sat us down with complimentary tea straight away. By the next morning they’d arranged for someone local to drive about thirty minutes with the exact coolant we needed, charging us only what it cost. We also couldn’t get cash nearby, and they helped us sort that out so we could buy souvenirs from the kind local ladies at the market stalls. We’d totally return and recommend it to anyone.

The food is amazing and the staff are really friendly. The location is spot on, right next to the monastery. Big thumbs up to Marry and the family for their hospitality. Stay here when you visit Haghpat.

Mary and her family were very hospitable, and both dinner and breakfast featured lots of homemade products. The room was clean, had AC and was right in front of the monastery. Good value for money, really recommended.

Breakfast was so generous I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day, and the homemade wine was amazing. The food overall was great, too. Mari and her colleagues gave us super hospitable, friendly service. It’s a beautiful place, with the monastery and mountain views. Deserves more than five stars. Armenia is beautiful to visit, and I can totally recommend this hotel and place.
