Amrots Hotel

Vayk itself doesn't have much to offer, but the surrounding area does, and the hotel also works well as a base for the Yegheghis area. Perched above town, it gives every room a view of either the mountains behind or the valley and mountains ahead. I was the only guest, so they moved me up from the cheapest room to a small suite with a balcony. The room was modern and comfortable, and the service was friendly. The formal restaurant wasn't fully open with only one guest, but the chef came out with several dishes to choose from. I can't remember which one I picked, but it was delicious. Breakfast was excellent too.

The breakfast was good, and the rooms were clean with facilities that worked fine. Since the hotel sits on top of a hill, there's a lovely terrace where you can sit and have tea or coffee. My room didn't have WiFi, and the staff couldn't fix it. There are lots of stairs and no lift.

The terrace and its view were really lovely, and the staff were nice. My room was comfortable and breakfast decent. The problem was the smoke smell throughout the hotel, since every room is for smoking. The restaurant is only open some of the time, so it may be better to eat beforehand.

We came for one night and ended up staying three. Vayk doesn't give tourists much to do, but the hotel made a brilliant starting point for short day trips. Our upgraded room was turned over very well each evening, and breakfast was good for the price. From arrival, the staff were relaxed, friendly, and keen to help. When we apologized for asking for a few things on the first night, they told us, "we try only to say yes in this hotel." Christine and Marianne at reception were especially helpful, always smiling despite their long hours. They're wonderful ambassadors for the place. We highly recommend the hotel.
