California Boutique Hotel

We booked five nights and left after four because we couldn't handle it any longer. The room felt like an unhygienic, suffocating prison cell. The only thing in its favor was the location. Please look after your health and stay away. The bed was broken, as my photos show, and so uncomfortable that my partner and I lost a lot of sleep. We had to cancel our hike to volcano Azhdahak because we were so sleep deprived. It creaked with every movement, while noise from guests and staff carried through the thin walls. People were loud until midnight or later, and the reception TV could be heard throughout this tiny 10-room hotel. You could hear everything from nearby rooms. There were no windows, and the air felt stale, suffocating and nearly unbreathable, even after we'd been out all day. It affected our well-being and led to growing tension and distress. We had to leave the door open just to get by. The rooms were shockingly small, with hardly any space to move or store a suitcase. The pictures on Booking.com and other platforms were outright misleading. Staff never cleaned the rooms. The little bin overflowed after a couple of days, and nobody emptied it. We ran out of toilet paper and had to buy our own. The staff acted like this was a hostel. Breakfast was only available from 9 to 11 a.m., which was impractical for travellers. The food was revolting: stale bread, old fruit and questionable ham. My partner found a live fly crawling out of her bread. Hygiene seemed nonexistent, and staff sleeping at tables in the breakfast area made the atmosphere worse. We booked “CA Yerevan Hotel” on Booking.com, but the property is actually called Hotel California Boutique. The so-called CA Yerevan Hotel doesn't appear on Google Maps, perhaps to hide negative reviews. This could be illegal and may point to shady business behind the scenes. It might be worth reporting.

The hotel is really stylish, with cute, modern and innovative decor, and the drink choices are great. They always have hot water to warm you up. The service is welcoming and friendly, and the staff are happy to answer tourist questions or help you find things like local exchange services and food supermarkets. Everything we needed was provided. I highly recommend it.

A sweet little place right in the city center, with nice, clean rooms and good management. Book directly with the hotel ahead of time if you want a better rate.

Breakfast was so meager it felt like they were only serving it to claim it was included. For a couple, there were just 3-4 small pieces of bread and a few paper thin slices of sausage and cheese. The hours, 9 to 11 AM, make little sense when most guests are tourists heading out early for tours. One day we didn't eat anything at all at breakfast. Noru was good, but the other two guys, especially the tall thin one, gave poor customer service. Our room was small and unclean, and the bed creaked. Both main hotel doors were always open, while the guy looking after the place slept on the sofa.
