Hotel Trópico

After a busy day, I found the spacious, modern, well-kept rooms a comfortable place to unwind. The restaurants were a highlight, with plenty of tasty dishes, and the business facilities made it easy to work while traveling. Staff were welcoming, professional, and ready to help. Hotel Trópico made for a fantastic stay in Luanda, whether for work or leisure, and I’d happily recommend it.

After my long flight, I was left stranded for six hours without a room. The receptionist initially said there was no booking in my name. They then called to say a representative from VALARIS had instructed them to offer me only a meal, which I declined because I needed a room to rest. At work, the company representative told me they had first asked the hotel to provide only a meal because they’d forgotten I was arriving from abroad. They said that once they remembered, they emailed and called the hotel to request a room, and showed me proof of the email. The hotel had confirmed it would allocate me one, but never did. To make matters worse, the hotel emailed VALARIS claiming I had checked in and asking for payment for a room I never used. When I called the hotel to dispute this, they couldn’t find any record of either my booking or check-in. This was extremely unprofessional and disappointing.

The room itself is roomy and comfortable, but the air conditioning duct gives off a strong musty smell. The mini-fridge is no use since it doesn’t cool anything.

I used to like this hotel, especially the salon where I got my hair cut, but that service has really gone downhill. The barber who cuts your hair is absolutely miserable. The gym entrance staff are extremely rude and speak very abruptly when telling you to wait.
