San Sebastian de la Selva

We really liked the peaceful setting, the birds, and having capybaras around. Juan was friendly and gave us a really informative walk through the grounds. The cabin itself was nicely built, and when we arrived late in the evening we immediately wished we could stay longer than two nights. That feeling didn’t last long, though, and we soon thought about moving to another hotel. The mattresses were old, uncomfortable sponges, and the bedding was threadbare. The blankets were stained and filthy. Meals were a letdown too. Breakfast was brioche with jam. Lunch was a small bowl of gnocchi with a dollop of Bolognese, and when we asked for more, we were told there wasn’t any. Dinner was supposedly pizza, but it was an overbaked cracker under melted cheese, fried onion, and a little tomato. The portions were small, with sugary desserts to make up for them. We’d asked about the menu the day before arriving and were told meals could be adjusted to our needs, but that didn’t really happen. The cook was polite in words, yet so formal that we didn’t feel welcome. We hope the reforestation project goes well, but we wouldn’t stay here again.
