Loft Osteria by Sagardi

The price was a ripoff. I had prepaid three nights at usd 90 a night, so I ended up staying, even though the same room costs less than half that today. Don’t reserve in advance. This place damages the Sagardi brand badly. We’ve stayed at Sagardi locations worldwide, and this was substandard. Jennifer’s previous poor review matches my experience. The first room smelled bad, but Guido at reception was helpful and professional, got us a better room, and even managed to get me a second key set when we’d only been given one. The staff in general were friendly. Still, the place needs maintenance and has almost no decoration. The toilet tank leaks, the shower is partly clogged, and the courtyard sofas need new upholstery. The manager was on vacation. Not worth the price, and never again.

We booked nine nights at Loft Osteria by Sagardi for our first trip to Buenos Aires. Our flight was delayed, so instead of landing at 10 am we arrived at 1 am. There’s no reception, just a desk in the restaurant, and check-in has to happen before 11 pm if you want your keys. I had to frantically book another room for our first night, and without internet on the flight we could have been left on the street. Just book somewhere else for the whole stay. The room we got the next day was beat up. I understand it’s a historic building, but some repairs are needed. The floor squeaked, the bed was hard and uncomfortable, there weren’t enough pillows, and the towels were thin. The shower wouldn’t drain and the toilet kept running. There was visible mold on the ceiling around the air conditioner. The patio looked lovely, but every cushion I tried was wet despite no rain for weeks, and my pants got soaked. All the rooms are up 30 very steep steps, and there’s no elevator. If stairs are hard for you, this could be a problem. We managed, but hauling our bags up was no easy task. We had a loft room, as expected, with another set of steps to the bed. Once you’ve checked in, you’re on your own. There’s no front desk, and the maids may or may not come by. Bring toilet paper, extra pillows, and a mattress topper if you want to sleep. We were so disappointed we checked out four days early, but they still charged me for every night, including those we weren’t there. Easily one of the worst places we’ve stayed, and we travel a lot.

Victoria in customer service was especially good, and that alone almost made the place worthwhile. But it’s quite a lot to pay for faded glory. My room’s fridge was broken, and the shower ran out of hot water quickly. Some shared areas are literally crumbling. Europeans should know breakfast doesn’t start until 9, and even Starbucks isn’t open then, so it may help to keep something in your room.

The area was nice, as was the room, but the room itself wasn’t in great shape. It was pretty dusty, and the cleaning staff forgot to leave towels one day. We had to wait until the following day to shower.
