Complejo La Matera

What made the stay special was how easy it was to relax in the grounds. La Matera is in the quiet Artalaz neighborhood, a little way from the center, with lots of trees, greenery, and aromatic plants where you can sit, read, have mate, or just enjoy the setting. It was over 32 degrees every day we were there, but the shade made the heat manageable. The pool was okay, though it could have been a degree cooler and a bit cleaner. We stayed in the largest cabin, which had its own quincho and grill. The kitchen was fully equipped, the bathroom was roomy, and both bedrooms had air conditioning and ceiling fans. There was daily housekeeping. Breakfast came in a welcoming space with books, friendly music, and a lovely garden view. There was plenty to choose from: coffee, tea, mate cocido, hot water, hot and cold milk, orange juice, homemade cakes (the carrot one stood out), libritos, warm medialunas, white and whole wheat bread, rice cakes, cereal, fruit salad, dulce de leche, butter, cream cheese, and homemade fig and orange preserves. The orange one was especially good. Everyone was kind, especially Mariano. He was helpful from our first WhatsApp contact and was flexible when we needed a small change to the reservation. He also told us about tours and things to see in Colon and nearby. When one of my daughters had a health problem, he quickly guided us on where to get care and checked how she was doing. We’d come back and recommend the place, particularly if you want peace and quiet and room to enjoy the outdoors.

The green park and the quiet made this a lovely place to stay. My partner and I were there from November 20th to 21st, 2025, and the cabin had everything we needed: Wi-Fi, air conditioning, TV, a mini-fridge, and a bathroom with a bathtub. There was covered parking too, plus a delicious breakfast and a swimming pool. Mariano was especially attentive and kind throughout our stay. We left grateful for his warmth and straightforward, thoughtful service. We’ll definitely come back.

There are some good things here, but a few areas need attention. The grounds are pleasant and well kept, with a barbecue area, places to sit and have mate, a pool, and other amenities. The staff were very friendly. The air conditioning in the cabin was excellent, among the best I’ve come across, and it helped us sleep even though daytime temperatures stayed above 34 degrees Celsius all week. I recommend it, with some reservations. The pool was cloudy and dirty on the third day, so I stopped using it after two days. The water wasn’t changed during the week. Breakfast also felt skimpy to me: toast, biscuits, coffee, milk, croissants that were just average, jam, cream cheese, and a few other things. The first night, while I was eating at the table, a spider landed on my shoulder. Bugs can happen in a wooden cabin, but the place could use maintenance. There were cobwebs, worn floors, and low water pressure in both the shower and toilet.

We picked La Matera for the room for the kids to play ball and swim while we relaxed. The shared spaces and the peaceful, warm atmosphere made it a lovely family stay in January. The owners and their family gave us personal attention, and the place was clean and orderly. We also saw them doing maintenance on the grounds and the pool. The rates seemed fair for the service and location. Natalia greeted us and stayed attentive throughout the visit, and Mariano and the whole team deserve a 10/10! I’d gladly return and recommend it if you want a few quiet days to unwind while the kids have fun. And about those complaints over little things, you’re in the countryside in cabins, hahaha, what do you expect? You won’t regret it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
