The bathroom lighting was good, and the hand shower was a useful touch, but the tiny sink, about 10 inches round with a huge faucet in the middle, made washing my face awkward. The room itself was small and clean, with no chairs or proper place to put clothes at night. There’s a safe, but you have to ask for a key. The hotel has a nice entrance and sitting area, plus a patio for warm weather. It’s near the main avenue and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. I think October or later is the best time to visit Calafate. There are lots of rules that are hard to follow. We couldn’t hang wet clothes on the room heater, even though it was raining constantly, and were told to use a clothesline that wasn’t there. Food isn’t allowed in the room, but the restaurant only opened for breakfast. That meal was very basic, with cold fried eggs. There’s a washing machine but no dryer.

The room was nice, and I really liked the staff. They did what they could to make us comfortable. Breakfast wasn’t the best I’ve had. Also, the price we were given when booking went up by 70 USD when we arrived, which didn’t feel good.

We only ate at the restaurant, not at the hotel. The lady serving us did her best, but the menu del día, cod with potatoes, tasted odd, like the fish may have been thawed and frozen again. These days in Argentina it seems common to be charged without getting much in return.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but had a disappointing meal at the restaurant. After a long wait, we got the tiniest steak I’ve ever seen for $30 and a pizza that looked very unappetizing. They also wouldn’t let us adjust the menu to pair the dishes with different sides. The place looks beautiful, and we understand things are expensive in this country these days, but businesses still need to treat guests fairly and not take them for granted. It’s a shame, and I hope management listens to customer feedback.

The rooms have a beautiful view, and the hotel looks nice. The restaurant and bar staff were really kind. At the front desk, the staff could have been nicer. For what we paid, I don’t think it was worth it.
