El Chalten Aparts

The photos actually undersell the place. It was a really comfortable base for hiking, with hospitable hosts who were always helpful, and a great breakfast delivered to the room each day. El Chalten is a stunning town, too. Highly recommend.

We liked being a little away from the main stretch because the area was quieter. Our upstairs unit had a lovely loft window that brought in lots of light, though it couldn’t be covered, so light sleepers may want an eye mask. The roads right by the unit are gravel, meaning roller bags need to be carried about 100m south to the nearest paved road. Toilets are not to be flushed with TP or anything else, which is common in El Chalten, but good to know. The apartment was spacious and well kept, with daily cleaning that kept it feeling fresh. The beds were comfortable and the large bathroom had modern, clean fixtures and a good shower. The kitchen had what we needed for small meals. Each evening they left breakfast for the next day: apples, juice, milk, yogurt, mini muffins, coffee, and cereal, with perishables kept in the fridge. We booked through Airbnb and had a great stay. Rominia and Gustavo were fantastic hosts.

They canceled our reservation on the day of our March trip, with no explanation, after I’d booked through Airbnb in January. I’d been told they would send check-in details before we traveled, so I messaged them early that morning and they immediately canceled. We had to scramble to find another place that day, and it was much more expensive. Maybe they forgot or double-booked, but not contacting us or explaining what happened was really unprofessional.

The host was lovely and quick to respond, and we really enjoyed his restaurant and hiking suggestions. They cleaned the room each day, and the breakfast was a lovely extra. We could also borrow trekking poles.
