Hostel del Lago

Probably the best hostel breakfast I’ve ever had! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the atmosphere is really warm and friendly, with board games and pool. I’d strongly recommend staying here.

EDIT (reply to the owner’s response): After I posted my review, the owner responded with claims that contradict their own accusation. They now say they reminded us of hostel rules many times, but can’t name even one rule we supposedly broke. They say they ran to a taxi, had to take us out, and made us pay, even though we had a 4x4 car, not a taxi. They also describe many uncomfortable situations, but during our stay there were no issues or conflicts, and we barely interacted with anyone beyond buying beers. I’ve attached screenshots of the response in case it gets changed or deleted. This was a deeply disappointing and dishonest experience. Before reading my account, take 30 seconds to look at other low-star reviews here. You may notice a pattern in how the staff treats guests. Don’t rely only on what I’ve written, check the other reviews for yourself. ——— In November 2024, three of us from Israel stayed one quiet night at Hostel Del Lago (El Chaltén), in a nearly empty hostel. The common room was silent, as the photos show. The three of us had a couple of Patagonia beers, played pool, and went to bed early. We paid for everything and left early the next morning without any issue. A year later, by chance, I came across an Airbnb review accusing us of wanting to leave without paying for drinks. That’s completely untrue. The attached photos show the beers we bought and paid for on the spot, the empty common room, and the peaceful, respectful atmosphere. Nothing about our stay fits the accusations that appeared later. The response to my review made things worse, with a whole story that never happened while we were there: rules we supposedly broke, uncomfortable situations that didn’t exist, and a claim about getting into a taxi. None of that happened, not a word of it. We were three quiet travelers who barely spoke to anyone. I traveled more than 10,000 km from Israel while my homeland was at war and Israelis were facing hostility around the world. To be treated this way, with fake smiles in person followed by false accusations and stories rewritten online, is incredibly painful. It says a lot about how some people still choose to treat travelers from my country. Travelers deserve to know if a place is willing to fabricate incidents, publish false claims, and add more to the story when challenged. The photos and screenshots show how that night actually was: peaceful, calm, and respectful, until we discovered the accusations a year later.

The rooms are huge, with a lovely heater, and breakfast was a great way to start the day. We got a lovely warm welcome and lots of tips about town. A perfect place to stay for one night before climbing Fitz Roy.

We had a lovely three night stay. The place was cozy and cute, breakfast was great, the location was convenient, and the staff were very nice.
