The location was good, though Esquel is small enough that all the hostels are well located. There was a kitchen, but the equipment was poor and dirty. The rooms were unbelievably filthy, especially the bathrooms, and the sheets were dirty too. They were 100% polyester, so I'd sweat all night or freeze if I didn't use them. The bed and mattress were extremely uncomfortable. Staff were unhelpful and even angry, and couldn't answer basic questions. There was nowhere to leave luggage after checking out, and the place had no good atmosphere. The hostel says it changed its cleaning staff, but I don't think it did. I would strongly recommend not booking here under any circumstances.

We planned to camp in Esquel, but the camping site wasn't open, so we wound up here and regretted it. The hostel was basic, with a grubby bathroom and a room and sheets that weren't very clean. We were told the kitchen would open at 7am and breakfast would start at 7:30. At 7:50 there was still no breakfast, even after we rang the reception bell several times, and the kitchen was locked with our food inside the fridge. Our bus left at 8am, so we had to leave the food behind and go. We emailed after leaving to ask why the kitchen hadn't opened, but still haven't had a reply or apology. That felt rude. For the same price or more than other places nearby, I expected better. Avoid staying here and look elsewhere.

The staff were warm and helpful, and all of them spoke Spanish and English. They were happy to answer questions and share information. The place felt welcoming and was nicely designed. The facilities were in great shape, and both the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. I'd definitely come back to Esquel and stay here again.

The staff were nice, but the room was small. It smelled strongly of paint all day because they'd painted it without telling us, and our bags ended up full of fresh paint. 👎

Good price, clean, and well located, with hot water and decent WiFi. It's an old, somewhat run-down hostal, though.
