La Posta del Pilar Hotel & Spa - Adults Only

We loved our stay, but it was too expensive. The rooms cost more than the Hilton just 1 km away, which has renovated rooms, though this place offers a boutique feel with fewer than 30 rooms. The full spa is great for a romantic getaway, and the massage prices are good, including for couples. Breakfast could use more options.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and they were cleaned well every day. We also enjoyed the relaxing spa, the lovely views of the yard from the gym and indoor pool, and some of the kind, friendly staff. But a lot of the stay was disappointing. The outdoor pools were full of flies and didn't seem to be cleaned regularly. Breakfast and dinner were very poor. My girlfriend couldn't find any proper food during our whole stay, and the only things I enjoyed over four days were a steak and one burger. One evening, a waiter forgot our order, and we waited until 23:00 for the meal. The rice was undercooked, and they still charged us, so we complained and refused to pay. Apart from the very limited breakfast, nothing is included in the accommodation price. They even charge for refilling water in the small refrigerators. The location is poor too, with nowhere else nearby to get food, and you can hear the highway from the pool. Most of the showers didn't work properly. The one beside the sauna leaked, and the room shower was bad, with the hot water cutting out several times.

The WiFi connection was good, handy for anyone who needs to work while getting away from the city. It’s a perfect spot for a weekend or a few days, with a wonderful spa and very kind, attentive staff. The blonde lady, whose name I can't remember, was a calm, kind, excellent masseuse. Such a beautiful place.

I've stayed at this small place several times, and the staff have huge hearts. Once, while I was reading Eric Clapton's autobiography over a brandy, I spoke very little Spanish and the man serving me knew very little English. Before long, music by EC was playing softly in the lounge. It’s a memory that really stayed with me.
