Hotel Spa Republica

Just one of dozens of standard city hotels in MDP. The service is unobtrusive, but breakfast is poor.

My first spa visit was a wonderful experience, and the facilities were lovely. It was very affordable compared with the USA.

The buffet courses were better, but nothing was labeled, so I couldn't tell what the dishes were. The main course and dessert were awful, and I couldn't eat either. The steak was honestly the worst I've had anywhere in the world, as pictured. I managed to eat the small edible part because I knew how much it had cost. Even breakfast was a problem: the eggs were inedible, so the poor food quality doesn't seem limited to holiday dinners. I also had a terrible experience trying to book Christmas Eve dinner as a hotel guest. I gave them my details and was quoted $115.000 pesos per person, already a very expensive dinner. Their last message to me was “we go ahead,” translated into English, with no further messages or requests for information. When I later asked what time the reservation was, the team said it hadn't been processed. I don't know why. In a panic about having no Christmas reservation, I paid the new price of $145.000 pesos, which had risen dramatically without being made clear to me. It's not my local currency, either. They haven't explained or apologized for not honoring my original booking and quote, and they've been extremely rude and unreasonable. I had clearly tried to reserve at the earlier price. As a paying guest, I think my request was reasonable, and I've had better service at two-star hotels. They don't seem to care about the guests or their experience, just the money. This isn't four-star quality, and the food wasn't worth the price. I'd go somewhere else.

We felt extremely welcome throughout our stay, and every staff member we met went out of their way to help. When we asked for a quieter room, they gave us one. After checkout, they also helped us retrieve valuables we'd forgotten in the safe, and they took care of the little issues that came up. We really appreciated it.
