Hotel Puerta del Bosque

Beautiful.

The place itself is beautiful, with lovely, well-kept grounds and an outdoor pool, and the service from the staff was excellent. I’d go back, though I hope the same problems don’t happen again. My concerns were with the owners’ handling of things during my stay, especially the lack of empathy and management. There was no working Wi-Fi in the rooms, and the restaurant had closed. I was told two days before arriving, but there was no compensation for the inconvenience, not even a snack. The spa was available at another hotel, but it wasn’t the same: it meant traveling into the city center, leaving my car outside, bringing a change of clothes, and sharing the facilities with guests from both hotels and people spending the day there. I only got to use the spa one of my three days because I was told on day two that it was under renovation. I wish I’d known before booking, so I could decide whether to stay. The work was very noisy all day and made it hard to rest. In room 22, the shower tap never worked, so I had to fill the whirlpool tub with the showerhead. One refrigerator was broken, but they replaced it right away. The room itself was spacious and clean. It’s in a quiet spot away from the bustle, with a spectacular forest view. The rooms are lovely, but need some attention to detail and TLC.

The recreational spaces are a real highlight. The grounds and outdoor pool are lovely, with tables, chairs, and lifeguards, and the third-floor spa has a heated pool, sauna, and hot tub. Everything is organized well, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. There’s also semi-covered parking, depending on availability and how many guests there are. The rooms are spacious, but feel a bit dated and could use maintenance. The mattresses are firm but comfortable; the pillows are very thin and hard. Noise carries from the wide hallway, which leads to the stairs, reception, and restaurant entrance. Housekeeping starts in the halls after 7:00 a.m., and that noise reaches the rooms too. We’d return, but would be careful about room choice and bring earplugs.

The hotel is beautiful and a really relaxing place for a weekend. I was told on WhatsApp that Sunday late check-out was possible, but was told no when I asked at arrival. We used the facilities until 5 pm, and noticed five rooms like ours still hadn’t been checked in. Apparently you can extend checkout by two hours if there’s no reservation. Those small gestures would mean a lot, especially since we had lunch and spent money there. The pillows are old, and I only learned the night before we arrived about the 21% surcharge that hadn’t been mentioned when booking.
