Oceana House Mendoza

We stayed five nights and were pleased with the room and service overall. The bed and linens were comfortable, and the lobby and breezeways feature changing displays of art and sculptures. One standout honors the author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, best known for The Little Prince, and his historic stay at the hotel in 1930. The room included breakfast at the lobby restaurant, where they take the buffet VERY seriously. It had European and local dishes, plus a toaster set aside for gluten-free bread and pastries, which my wife appreciated because of her gluten allergy. My favorite was the honey display: a full bee hive frame with fresh honey collected underneath for toast. The pool bar was handy for a quick Gin & Tonic, with friendly, attentive staff. The location is great for walking to entertainment and dining, and the storied Cementerio de la Ciudad de Mendoza is a short Uber ride away. Three Michelin starred restaurants are less than 10 minutes away. We chose a superb nine-course meal at Azafran, highly recommended. The casino onsite is easy to ignore, unless you enter through that back corner, where you can hear the slot machine racket. It doesn’t carry into the lobby or front desk. We spent a couple of hours at the spa and had massages. We hoped to use the hot tub together first, but the sauna and tubs are tucked away in the locker rooms. The tubs are individual and have to be filled before use, which takes a long time, so I settled for a quick steam sauna. The massage experience was well done, from the quiet waiting area to the tea afterward. We also had six bottles of Mendoza wine to ship home. The hotel arranged it, and we paid the shipper directly. The wine arrived in great shape a week after we got home, with no extra tariff or duties. The gorgeous façade and impressive lobby have soaring walls of glass, a stone interior, and chrome accents that feel luxurious and calm. My only complaint is deferred maintenance. A room refresh and a coat of interior paint would help, and the failed window panels need replacing.

The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, and our spacious room was clean. It’s a beautiful hotel in a great location. I can’t think of a single negative from our stay. A perfect spot in Mendoza!

The service was fantastic, and so was the location. The room felt a little dated, the shower had standing water, and the TV had issues. With the high nightly cost, it’s disappointing that breakfast isn’t included.
