Sheraton Pilar Hotel and Convention Center

I mostly enjoyed our stay, and the bed was comfortable, though the rooms are a little dated. The facilities are nice, especially the gym, which is among the best I’ve seen in a hotel. My one real complaint was being charged the equivalent of $13usd for a plain croissant. Even with the setting, that feels overpriced.

After staying here two years in a row as a lifetime Marriott platinum member, I don’t think it’s worth returning. It’s an old hotel, and breakfast was probably the worst part. Anything really edible, like an omelette, costs extra, and you also have to pay extra to “rent” a bed by the pool. There are better options in the region, such as Hyatt or Sofitel.

The exterior looks much better than the inside, as I’ve found at other Sheratons. This is my second stay at a Sheraton in Argentina, and it still fell short of my already low expectations. The prices are at a five-star level by local standards, but the outdated, depressing room and bathroom don’t match. Some tiles were loose, and the showerhead sprayed water all over. Check-in took 25 minutes, and the WiFi was so weak I couldn’t send an email. I don’t think it’s worth the price.

The staff were friendly, and our room was clean and spacious, which made this a great hotel for a winter holiday with kids. The restaurant menu was the one downside. If they’re welcoming families at this time of year, they should offer more food kids will actually eat, like plain burgers, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, or carrot sticks. Most kids aren’t keen on very elaborate dishes.
