We booked two nights, but after seeing the room we left and stayed in Upsallata instead, which was a much better option. The hotel is very run-down, and the rooms are dirty. Nothing like the photos. I don't recommend staying there. The 4 star reviews are from before the pandemic, and clearly things have changed. Our room hadn't been vacuumed or cleaned before we arrived. There were dead bugs in the bed sheets, and the carpeted floors were stained and dirty. A bad experience. Stay away.

Steve, the Ayelen Hotel owner, and his wonderful staff helped make my first trip to Argentina memorable. I fell in love with the country and its people. This is a great place to stop on the way to or from Aconcagua NP, and it seems especially suited to hikers like me. The comfort and services are reasonable, and I can't complain about the prices. You can pay less in Mendoza, but for such a remote spot, I didn't find it unreasonably expensive. And kudos to the staff for the welcoming atmosphere and personal attention to each guest.

Jonathan went above and beyond when we had an early start to cross over to Argentina, making us a lovely breakfast to take along. The restaurant was surprisingly good, with lots to choose from and a huge wine selection. Prices were similar to Mendoza, which seemed understandable out here in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is no frills, so know what you're getting, and you'll see why I'd give it 5 stars. The room is basic but has what you need for a few hours before heading across the border to Argentina. The room was clean, and there was a hot shower. The views are great, and Aconcongua Park is just minutes away, with a hike to Confluencia. Wi-Fi only works in the lobby, but we preferred sitting there to being in the basic room.

My girlfriend and I chose to eat at the hotel instead of going to a restaurant. We ordered two simple main dishes, vegetables with rice and meat with rice, plus a huancaina potato as a starter and tea. When we asked to pay with Mercado Pago, the waiter showed us 59,000 ARS. I asked if he'd accidentally added a zero, since we normally pay up to ARS 10,000 for a meal like that. He insisted the amount was 59.000 ARS. When I challenged him more firmly, he came over and immediately changed it to ARS 15,000, saying that was all I needed to pay. I paid ARS 15,000. Then the waiter called the Argentine police on me for not paying the bill! I showed them the receipt proving I'd paid. If I owned a business, I'd fire that waiter immediately. He tried to charge me at least 4x the price, then called the police on me. I'd definitely avoid this accommodation. They are thieves.

Steve & Mecha, the owners, were very personable and did everything they could to make our group feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms were clean, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great accommodations in Penitentes on the way into Aconcagua National Park. I'd definitely come back and stay here again.
