Mercure Iguazu Hotel Iru

The only real letdown was the restaurant. The atmosphere and staff were nice, but the food was just okay. We also had some confusion about the hot tub: it’s outdoors, just beyond the outdoor bar. Otherwise, it’s a very peaceful hotel in the middle of the jungle, with cool views from almost all the rooms. The pool and outdoor hot tub are beautiful, and service was impeccable. We had no language problems. We came to visit the Falls, which were a quick drive away. Uber was easy to get whenever we called, and the hotel can also arrange a taxi.

We were upgraded to room 215, thanks to facundo. The pools looking out over the jungle were a lovely place to unwind after exploring Iguazú, and the whole setting has a peaceful, unusual feel. The hotel and room were clean and well cared for, and staff were welcoming throughout. The only inconvenience is needing a ride into the city. The hotel has taxis or a private car available on site.

The lifts were the main problem. There are only two for all the floors, so at busy times the wait can be long. We ended up late for our tour because of it. We tried the stairs, but there were no signs and we came out through a staff entrance. We stayed three nights in November. The room was good, the bed comfortable, and the shower excellent. Breakfast had a good selection.

We wouldn’t stay here again. The food was mediocre, the internet kept dropping and was slow in the early evening, and the included breakfast was a firm 2/10. Since there isn’t really another place to go for breakfast, that was especially disappointing. We talked with other guests who had similar impressions. The property feels worn and dated, which might have been forgivable if the rest of the stay had gone better. One evening we sat in the foyer bar and ordered drinks and snacks for dinner. When we tried to order food, the barman scolded us like children. I asked to speak to the manager about it and got ignored, even after following up three times. Of all the food we had in Argentina, where it was generally excellent, this was the worst. A disappointing stay.
