Petit Hotel Caraguata

The staff let me leave my luggage at reception for the whole day, so I could visit the falls and pick it up that evening before my night flight. They were very helpful, and the lady and the older man at reception overnight shared useful information that made my next day's visit to the falls easier. My room was cosy and comfortable, with air conditioning that cooled it in just a few minutes. The washroom was manageable, though not the best, and they provided free toiletries and towels. Breakfast was included. The choices were limited but enough to fill me up, and the freshly made orange juice was the best I've ever had. I loved staying here and would definitely stay again.

We were first told the hotel was fully booked after finding it listed for a low price of 16k ARS, then sent to another hotel on the corner run by the same owner, where they charged 22k ARS. The rooms there were bad. The first was run down and had broken AC; the second smelled of mold and had a huge cockroach in the shower. When we asked for our money back, they said they could only return 50%. Eventually we were put in this hotel. Its room was in much better condition, but still very worn down, and the shower head and wooden ceilings clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Whatever was on the ceilings was on the bed sheets too. I was shocked and just wanted to get through it, so I didn't take photos. Breakfast wasn't great, though it wasn't too awful if you like croissants. For the following nights we used AirBnB, paying 15USD for a freshly done studio house with EVERYTHING included utility-wise. This hotel is a rip off, especially with the scam they're running.

We were locked out after 1100 without any warning, and noise from neighbors coming back late carried into the rooms. The running water was only a trickle, there were cockroaches in the bed, and the internet didn't work during our stay. They claim staff speak English, but only the manager does, if you can find her. Once we managed to reach the manager, she was very helpful and did her best to address some of the problems. Full marks to her.

The lady at reception was friendly and helpful, and Pol was nice too. I enjoyed my stay, and the bed was comfortable. It's a short walk to catch the bus to Iguacu falls. At the time I wrote this, the bus cost 600 pesos. The main parts of town are about 1km away.
