I liked being a little way out in the jungle, but getting anywhere meant relying on fairly expensive taxis, which wasn't so great. I also wasn't comfortable with some of the prices: paying 65 000 ARS to get to the Brasilian side felt like a tourist scam, and I'd never had to pay for minibar water in South America before. The food wasn't very good, and after eating only at the hotel restaurant on the second day, I had a slight case of food poisoning. Breakfast was just okay too. The rooms were clean and the staff very friendly, but my stay was just okay and I expected more.
We slept comfortably in clean rooms with air conditioning and a dehumidifier. The adults-only setting also made for a peaceful stay, and the restaurant, Green Mandioca, was so good that the food was better than at any of the outside restaurants. Our flight was delayed by several hours, so we missed the check-in hours, but the hotel and expedia worked together to arrange our check-in and have night security let us in. Our stay here was perfect.
We paid 50,000 pesos each, 100,000 pesos in total, to use the pool on a very hot day. It began raining after we'd swum for barely two minutes. We asked for a refund, some kind of goodwill gesture, or at least a restaurant voucher, but the staff refused. The two people we spoke with at reception were rude and no help at all. They'd also put away the pool equipment and cushions and closed all the umbrellas, so we couldn't even sit on the loungers. We had come to eat at the restaurant too, and the food was really bad. Paying that much for two minutes of swimming was absolutely unacceptable.
The two receptionists we dealt with were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. The restaurant food was terrible too. On a very hot day, we paid 50,000 pesos each, 100,000 pesos total, to use the pool, then got to swim for literally two minutes before it rained. We asked for a refund, a goodwill gesture, or even a restaurant voucher, but they refused. We also asked to speak to a manager or someone in charge and were turned down again. We ended up paying 100,000 pesos to swim for two minutes. Absolutely outrageous. Save yourself the trouble and stay away.
My wife and I booked five nights at the Selvaje Lodge Hotel for our Argentina trip in autumn 2025. Before leaving, we went to a Travel Vaccination Clinic for advice and vaccinations. They told us this part of Argentina was a Yellow Fever risk area, where infected mosquitoes can transmit a disease that may cause serious illness or death. WHO and CDC recommend vaccination for travelers to the area. But the clinic also strongly advised people over 60 against getting the vaccine, because the risk of serious side effects rises considerably after 60, and even more for people like me who are 70 or older. We felt we had no choice but to change our plans and go somewhere in Argentina without a Yellow Fever risk. Our booking was non-refundable, but we contacted the Selvaje Lodge Reservations Team to ask for an exception and refund. We started writing to the hotel and Booking.com on 10th September 2025, well ahead of time for the room to be resold. The hotel said that if we had booked directly, they would have had no problem refunding us. Booking.com made things more complicated because of its booking fee, but Reservations told us not to worry and said they'd fix it. Booking.com was helpful and supportive, offered to waive its fee, and contacted the hotel so the cancellation and refund could go ahead. The hotel repeatedly claimed Booking.com hadn't contacted them, although we know it sent a formal refund request through its usual channels. Our last three messages to the general manager and Reservations Team have gone unanswered. We feel the hotel treated us disingenuously while we were dealing with a difficult and unforeseen situation. They strung us along with promises and then went completely silent. That felt disrespectful and like a shoddy way to treat us. We sent management a draft of this review so they could respond to its fairness and accuracy, but received no reply. I'm sharing this so other travelers to the region, especially older people like us, know about the potential travel difficulties and what booking with the Selvaje Lodge Hotel may involve.
