Our stay was unexpected, and we were really grateful for the help and smiles we got despite the language barrier. The room was basic and nothing fancy, but it suited us, and we felt safe. Dinner and breakfast were just what we needed.

The rooms are small, but the ones facing the sea have a spectacular view of Valparaiso’s port. I felt safe in the neighborhood, with the police station right nearby. The staff gave good service and stayed focused on their jobs, unlike at most Chilean hotels I’ve visited. The rooftop restaurant has a small menu, but the food is very good, even better in my opinion than the well-known Oda Pacifico close by. It’s a modern hotel with a Chilean feel.

A good hotel for a stop on Route 40. Make sure you don’t pay the 21% tax. The stretch of Route 40 from here toward Rio Gallegos has a lot of gravel, so take the other, higher route.

They call it a chic hotel, but I didn’t find anything here to recommend. It’s probably the best option in Rio Turbio, though the town itself is a rather depressing little mining town.
