Ferienhaus Hostel Salta

The hostel is central and the staff are friendly. Rooms can get really hot, and breakfast is very basic, but that's about what you'd expect at this low price.

I had a poor stay. The hostel sits at the edge of a rougher area, and the internet was unreliable. The kitchen has just three weak burners for around 70 guests, so expect to queue. Some staff seemed unfriendly and wanted to push people out before checkout. Breakfast was poor, served in a tiny room, with a smoking area right beside it. The rooms had little ventilation, thin sheets that are likely to leave you cold on cloudy days, and unstable bunks. The lower beds have so little headroom that I kept hitting the frame even while lying down and propping myself on one arm. There isn't a comfortable common room either. People mostly sit on wooden benches in the hallways. There are four better chairs with cushions by reception, but that room is dark and the music is far too loud.

Everything important is within walking distance, and the hostel is clean, roomy, and well equipped. Still, I wasn't keen on the stale breakfast bread, which they served every day, or the grumpy, unhelpful receptionist in the late afternoon. People were also allowed to smoke inside. There's no roof over that area, so it gets some air, but you have to walk through it to reach the rooms.

A quiet room at night made this a good place to rest, and the staff kept the music pleasant without turning the hostel into a party spot. The place felt secure and was very clean and tidy. The kitchen was okay, and there's a sink for washing clothes plus somewhere to dry them. Staff were friendly and helpful.
