Hotel Tonight

The room was so loud from the water heater right nearby that we could barely hear the TV, even at full volume. We checked in at 10 pm, and when the receptionist said the noise would stop soon, we waited until 11:30. It was still going, and he agreed it was impossible to sleep there. We left to find another hotel, but he refused to refund us. A friend of his was smoking inside the reception hall, so the whole hotel smelled of cigarettes. We’re not demanding people, but this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had.

The room itself was nice, and they found space for us at the last minute after our other accommodation cancelled. Still, we had 40,000 pesos (€90) taken from our room. We’d hidden cash in several different parts of our bags, and some was missing from each bundle. The staff seemed friendly, but be careful if you stay here.

The bed had a noisy plastic cover, so getting any rest was hard. The towels and sheets were a greyish brown, and the place felt more like a hospital, with cracked white walls, than somewhere cozy. Breakfast was orange juice from concentrate and croissants that seemed dried out and from the day before yesterday. There was no hot water, and they had just one hair dryer for the whole hotel. Management didn’t seem to have made any effort to make the place comfortable. We only stopped here late at night, and it was a mistake. Avoid it.

While we were out, staff went through every bag and our belongings, then put everything back where it had been. We’d split our cash into small bundles tucked inside clothes bags in our larger luggage, and a portion was taken from each stash so we wouldn’t notice one bundle missing. Don’t leave anything in your room here. Cash is king in Argentina, but book at your own risk.
