Paseo Guemes Hotel

We were visiting from Junín, Buenos Aires, and stayed at the Don Güemes Hotel's mansion in downtown Salta, about four blocks from Plaza 9 de Julio. Our stay had already ended when the bus we were traveling in broke down. The owners let us remain there until late afternoon at no extra charge while the problem was sorted out. We really appreciate that kind gesture.

Mr. Hugo was so attentive to my children and to us, and went out of his way to help. My family and I loved the service and how we were treated. The place was exceptionally well located, in a good area that felt secure. It was clean, and breakfast was excellent, a typical country breakfast.

We left after just one day because a cockroach crawled across our bed. We'd paid for four days in full when we arrived, but they refused to credit us for the three we didn't use. The owner then claimed we hadn't wanted to pay, even though they charged us before we even checked into the room. I wasn't given a receipt or invoice, either. The room was tiny, as was the bathroom, which had no bidet. No one cleaned the room, they only changed the sheets. The hotel advertises comfort, but the Wi-Fi didn't work in our room and the small TV had a terrible picture. Breakfast also meant walking three blocks to a cafe, which they hadn't made clear. I don't recommend it at all.

We booked four nights and left after the first day. The room was tiny, the bathroom even tinier, and after a shower it flooded so badly that we couldn't use it again until the water drained. There were no curtains, and the wall-mounted bedside tables had exposed wires with no electrical tape or protection. We had a five-year-old with us, so that felt dangerous. There were no remotes for the TV or air conditioning, and cleanliness was nonexistent. Even the fitted sheets were knotted together. Poor Don Hugo at reception was left pretending to be the owners, who never acknowledged us. It was our first visit to Salta. Luckily, we found another PREMIUM hotel for the same price.
