Finca La Colorada

Getting there means taking a small muddy road, but the setting is unusual: a log cabin high on a hill, surrounded by rainforest.

We came by bus with two small children, and reaching the place and getting around turned out to be a real struggle. At booking, I was told it was 15 minutes from the center, but no one explained how difficult access would be. It's very isolated, with no stores or nearby place to buy anything, so you need to bring absolutely everything. If they hadn't served lunch and dinner, we would have had nothing to eat. The food was tasty and inexpensive. The staff were very kind. One of them even drove us back to the bus terminal, which I really appreciated. The showers were also very good, with hot water. But the owner never got back in touch with me and charged me for the meal even though I'd already paid a deposit. The cabins look nice, though they felt neglected and weren't completely clean. There were lots of bugs inside, especially spiders, which makes sense with all the trees around. I didn't feel safe or comfortable there with children, and the surroundings made me uneasy. The pool was a long way from the cabins, smelled bad, and wasn't pleasant. I'd only suggest this place to adults who want to disconnect completely, have their own car, and bring everything with them. Sadly, my stay wasn't very pleasant.

The homemade breakfast was delicious, and the scenery is beautiful. Getting to the cabin was another matter: the climb is very steep, and the underside of my car scraped several times.

Fernanda and Ivan were so attentive and helpful, and the cabin was lovely in the middle of a beautiful forest. It had everything we needed, and the service was good. Just be aware the road doesn't suit low-clearance cars. We drove a Yaris, and getting to the ranch and cabins was very difficult.
