Casa Chango Hostel

I'm not sure this is still a hostel. It seems more like some kind of temporary lodging, or something along those lines.

The location is handy, just a couple of blocks from the center, and the street itself is really quiet. The price was good too. You get a key, so you can come and go freely, almost like it's your own place. My room was fine, a six-bed room, though I had it to myself. If it's full, either in that room or across the hostel, it could get tricky. There aren't lockers, but there is plenty of room for backpacks. The shared bathrooms were clean. Breakfast costs extra, but that seemed fair for the price. I'll be back.

The kitchen has loads of equipment, and the bathrooms are roomy and clean. We were there over the June long weekend and had expected to be cold, but the rooms and common areas were wonderfully warm, with the fireplace adding a special cozy feeling. Everything was spotless and very orderly, and the place itself was quiet. Agustín was great, always paying attention to what we needed and sharing ideas for places to see, eat, and explore. It's only two blocks from the main square, so nightlife is nearby. There's no breakfast, but a little market, greengrocer, bakery, and restaurants are close, and the prices are very reasonable. We'll come back.

I stayed in the 18-bed dorm, and it worked out fine because I was by myself or sharing with just one other person. A full room might feel uncomfortable, though, since there are no lockers or other spots to keep your things. That could be improved. The location is excellent, the place is kept clean and tidy, and the managers are very attentive. Common areas indoors and out are lovely, with a good kitchen, outdoor grills, and extra stoves. The bathrooms are spacious, almost like changing rooms. There are private and shared rooms, plus dorms with 4, 6, or 18 beds.
