Our kids loved the open meadows and the cows and horses roaming around. We spent four magical nights at Almhaus Alpenrose with two families on a bike trip around the Austrian lakes. The hosts were welcoming, and the place had a warm, authentic feel. The cabin is tucked away in the mountains, far from civilization, and was spacious, cozy, and well equipped, with several apartments and a sauna that felt great after long rides. Such a beautiful, peaceful setting for nature lovers and families. A real hidden gem.

The mountain views from this location are gorgeous, and you can hear the Austrian cows. The bedrooms were very good, and the receptionist was friendly. A couple of things caught us out: my bathroom hood sounded like a motor, and we weren't told that the area's restaurants close after 6 pm, with kitchens shutting at 5:30. Make sure you have food or eat before then. There's also a €13 toll to reach the station.

The shared kitchen on each floor is handy, and the double room had enough space. Almhaus is well equipped, with beautiful views and lots of wildlife around, including 23 horses and cows. We stayed two nights. Keep in mind the private road toll: it's €12 from the south or €16 from the north, and you pay again every time you drive up from the valley. A bit annoying.

The nights here are completely dark and quiet, with herds of cows and horses nearby. Our room was fine and big enough, and it could have a balcony. Each floor has a well-equipped shared kitchen, plus there's a terrace with tables where you can have breakfast. There are a few small local restaurants down the road, but I'd bring my own food. Access is by private road, so expect a toll that varies depending on whether you come from the north or south. You have to pay each time you enter, even if you leave for a day trip and come back that evening. I'd suggest parking once and walking or hiking around, then leaving when you're done.

The room looked out on a beautiful view, and we had internet and a smart TV. It was a cozy, quiet place in a great spot in the middle of the ski resort. The shared kitchen and other common areas were fully equipped and felt like home. The only thing that bothered me a little was that the heating wasn't enough.
