Hotel Post Karlon

Hotel Post Karlon is still a fantastic place in 2021, and now the built-in-bed-radios have been replaced by modern TVs. The village is peaceful, the views are picturesque, and the people are friendly. The food is absolutely amazing. It also brought back memories of family or friend-group holidays in the 80s: arriving in a crowded village with curious faces around, then settling into a cozy hotel with spacious rooms. On the 1st floor, the room had a bathtub, a big comfortable bed, a wooden radio, a terrace, and lots of closets for a long stay. Waking up to the mountains and heading downstairs for delicious breakfast, life is good. A wonderfully nostalgic experience.

I stayed in one of the small rooms. It was dated, but tidy, with an old interior and lovely wood throughout. They also have more modern rooms, so you can keep to a budget or spend more for a room with a jacuzzi. There’s a sauna and an outdoor swimming pool for summer too. My room was quiet, restful, and comfortable, with clean bedding and good beds.

A great choice in Aflenz Kurort for traditional Austrian food with some modern touches. The daily menu is nice, and the à la carte options are varied. The portions are generous, the food was good, and the Schnitzel and crumbed half chicken were excellent. There’s a self-serve salad bar with a fresh, varied selection. The staff were friendly and helpful, and even spoke English, which was great. In summer, the outdoor area is open for food and drinks too.

We loved the garden and pool, and the location was great. The family who own the place were very nice, and breakfast was excellent. The rooms and decor feel a bit outdated, though, and the wifi didn’t work in our room on the 2nd floor.
