Der Berghof

UPDATE 2023. We went in July and reserved a table for one night, though it didn't seem necessary because there were plenty available. The place is very welcoming, and the owner or manager likes to come around and check that everything is okay. Food seems freshly cooked, and everything we tried was excellent. It's a great restaurant serving lots of traditional Austrian dishes at a reasonable price, in a friendly setting. There are a couple of outdoor dining areas, one under a gazebo and another under the eaves, plus a large indoor seating area. It can get a little noisy when there's a crowd, but generally it's a nice, quiet, relaxing place to eat and talk.

The balcony was a lovely bonus, with a couple of chairs where I could take in the impressive views. Breakfast was generous, with as many local specialties as you wanted, and meals were served throughout the day indoors or on the terrace. This small, charming, family-run hotel felt like home. The rooms were simple, cosy, and spotless.

We only visited the restaurant, not the hotel, and had an amazing meal in a terrific atmosphere. Zoltan, our waiter, was phenomenal and made us feel welcome from start to finish. We’ll definitely return, and I’d recommend eating here if you’re in Alpbach.

The balcony view was amazing, and the room was sparkling clean with a comfortable bed. We had a wonderful weekend, and everything suited us well. The hosts were attentive and really nice, and breakfast was delicious with plenty of options.
