NH Wien Belvedere

The staff were nice, and the location worked well, but I don’t understand the four-star rating. It felt more like a dressed-up bed and breakfast that needs serious investment. The decor was tired, with paint peeling in places, and both my room’s furnishings and those in the breakfast room looked worn and shabby.

We were there for just a couple of days right before Christmas, a very busy period, but the stay fell short of what we expected from the hotel’s classification. The extra bed we requested was missing parts, and one section of the mattress had no support from the frame. My mother sat on it, then hit her neck and ribs on a side table. At first we thought it had broken then, which would have been bad luck, but it was already damaged. It showed little regard for safety, and we were lucky she wasn’t seriously hurt. Staff apologized when we told them, but I still had to ask for the bed to be replaced. On top of that, only one of the three rooms we booked was ready at check-in. We’d also been assured in advance that we could pay the full amount with points, yet had to ask for the manager to get that sorted.

The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, and the hotel felt warm and cozy. It was very clean, and the staff were polite. Breakfast had a good variety, and there’s a tram stop, train stop, and Lidl nearby. The one downside was the noisy air conditioner.

Nancy at the front office suggested a very good restaurant for dinner, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The breakfast had so much choice that we could easily skip lunch. We stayed in an upgraded superior room, which was spacious and clean, and the common areas were well kept too. The wellness area is open around the clock. It’s a historic building near Belvedere Palace, and I’d absolutely recommend it.
