Ferienwohnung Fam. Leuner

The day before we were due to leave, we called Mrs. Leuner and found out the two apartments weren’t available. She couldn’t find our booking, so all of us were suddenly without a place to stay in the middle of peak season. It made for an absolutely awful holiday. My in-laws had stayed with the Leuner family in 2023 and enjoyed it enough to book the two large apartments for two weeks in July 2024, for themselves and us. We checked in with Mrs. Leuner during the year, and she reassured us that the reservation was all set.

The host family were welcoming, and the apartment was clean, well equipped, and in a great spot.

The owner agreed to shorten our stay without a cancellation fee after we raised our concerns. We left on Monday and found another place for the rest of the holiday, since nothing had changed in the garden. That flexibility was a positive, but the whole experience was a big disappointment. We’d picked this accommodation because of its high ratings and the lovely website photos. We were travelling with small children, and the garden and its play equipment seemed aimed at families like ours. Seeing it in such a poor state was a shock. Two nails stuck out of the sandbox, the trampoline was in bad shape, and the slide was dirty, neglected, and wobbly. The seating area was dirty and neglected too. The apartment’s windows didn’t give us the mountain view shown on the website, because overgrown trees and bushes blocked it. There were cobwebs on the terrace and another protruding nail. I’ve included a photo with this review. We reported everything to the owner expecting it to be fixed straight away, but the garden was still in the same sad condition when we left.

Lake Altaussee is about a 15-minute walk away, and the apartment makes a relaxing but fun family base. It’s spacious and clean, with nicely designed rooms and a modern, well-equipped kitchen that worked well for family meals. The garden has a trampoline and swimming pool, and the optional breakfast served in the room was excellent. It suits families with children, and others too.
