Whenever we're in Bad St Leonhard, we make a point of visiting Schloss Lichtengraben. It's a beautiful place, and Astrid and Andreas are wonderful hosts. On Fridays they serve smoked trout from their on site fishery with dark bread and horseradish. So delicious, and a hidden gem in every way.

The grounds are lovely to stroll around, and there’s fishing too. Inside, Castello Schloss Lichtengraben has real historic character, with elegant rooms and a wonderfully peaceful setting amid unspoiled nature. It feels like stepping into another world. Such a special hidden gem, and it would make a great backdrop for a wedding.

Andreas, the lord of the manor, served us freshly smoked trout at a lovely dinner. We also heard fascinating stories about the estate. Highly recommend.

The castle and gardens offer guided tours, and they’re well worth seeing. We came for Friday trout and loved it: the fish was superb, and the country style atmosphere was just our kind of thing. There’s also a chalet for holiday stays. It looks stunning from outside, and we could easily picture ourselves spending a holiday there.

Our group of eight, six adults and two children, spent two weeks in the castle’s spacious holiday apartment this year, and we were thrilled with it. Astrid and Andreas made the place feel distinctive and beautifully put together, while also giving us such warm, personal service. We’d love to return.
