The wait for our meal was around an hour, even though we’d ordered only soup and pasta with mushroom sauce, dishes that seemed to need little more than serving. When I asked whether we’d been forgotten, the soup came straight away, and staff said the pasta was still being prepared. My wife finished her soup before my pasta turned up, so I canceled it. That led to a heated exchange with both the waitstaff and kitchen staff. They implied they couldn’t be in two places at once, but showed no understanding and didn’t even apologize. This place clearly hasn’t grasped what good service means.

That reduction with the spaetzle is divine on its own. The venison loin was incredibly tender and outstanding. I’d make the trip from Vienna for it, and I’m doing that anyway.

There were nine of us, and we needed taxis back to our accommodation in Bad Schwanberg, but the taxi company was booked up for the next hour. The two chefs immediately offered to drive us there themselves in their own cars. I’ve never had service like that. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive too.
