Hotel Forelle

The staff were friendly, but they seemed untrained and didn’t know how to deal with an unhappy guest. I sent my food back to the kitchen and nobody asked why. The prices are top-market, like in central Amsterdam or Berlin and at the best restaurants in Fussen and Augsburg, where you get carefully cooked meals made from high-quality ingredients by chefs who care about the food. Here it felt like charging as much as possible while offering as little as possible. The food was below the level you’d expect, as if it came straight from a wholesale supplier, mixed and heated onto the plate. The setting deserves better. The location between the mountains at Plansee is absolutely stunning, though the interior could use a makeover to match it. The bathrooms have been beautifully redone and look very pretty. I wouldn’t eat here unless the owner lowers the prices or improves the food quality.

We’ve been eating here for decades, and the food and service are still exceptional. The Bunte Family serves up delicious meals in an idyllic spot. It’s lovely to stroll along the Heiterwanger See about an hour before eating, between the high peaks, and work up an appetite, or take a walk afterward to digest.

We had the soup and bread, which were delicious, and the Nutella crepe with ice cream is highly recommended. The restaurant is close to a beautiful, peaceful lake. The views are mesmerizing, almost like Switzerland. We wish we’d stayed at the hotel to enjoy the mountains and lake for longer.

Such a great spot, and very family-friendly. The hotel and restaurant are wonderful, and we’ll be back!
