Eco Lodges Millstätter See

The lake setting is lovely, and the lodges are peaceful, comfortable and well equipped. Once we were inside, we enjoyed our stay. The hard part was getting in. We arrived at 21:30 after receiving an email with access instructions, but the lodge wouldn’t open. I called and messaged every contact number and only got voicemail. In the dark, I couldn’t find the spare key safe either. I was travelling with my pregnant wife and our seven-year-old, who was cold and tired, so we urgently needed somewhere else to stay. Nearby hotels didn’t answer their phones. Luckily, my wife stopped a police officer, who spent nearly an hour helping us find a place for the night. We’re very grateful to him. His kindness restored our faith in the police. The camping management answered the next day, apologized and said they’d discuss what happened with their team. There were spare keys, but even with neighbors helping, we couldn’t find them at night. The email did mention them, though that detail was in very small print and only in German, which we don’t speak. With everything going on, we missed it. Our neighbors had trouble with their key too, but they arrived earlier and reached someone by phone. No one answered our calls that night. I’m not trying to offend the owners. It’s a wonderful place, but the key access needs to be clearer and easier, especially with no reception on site. I hope future guests, particularly those arriving after hours or who don’t speak German, can get into their lodges without this kind of stress.
