The host was kind, knew the trails well, and gave us really helpful advice. We’d planned a five-day high trail, staying here at the beginning and end, but circumstances meant cutting two days from the plan. The host fitted us in again without any trouble. The location is wonderful, the rooms are clean and nice, and everything was well organized. Breakfast was nice, and the lunch for our first hiking day was great. Everything was fantastic.

The owner was always around and happy to help, and breakfast was an excellent way to start the day. We stayed at Pension Hochwurzen both before and after our mountain hike. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and comfortable. It’s calm and away from Schladming’s busy center, though close enough to head into town for dinner. We’d happily recommend it for a relaxing stay.

We wound up staying longer than planned during a week of great hikes in the surrounding valleys, and the whole family of five enjoyed it. Elisabeth gave us helpful suggestions about which hikes suited the weather and which Schladming restaurant to choose. The pension is quiet, so sleeping well was easy, and the valley views are lovely. Excellent place and a great host.

Elisabeth packed us the best lunch of our hike, and we enjoyed talking with her at breakfast. My husband and I had booked the Schladming Tauern high trail through the Schladming Dachstein tourism association, which partners with Pension Hochwurzen. We stayed one night before the hike and two after, and had a wonderful time. The mountain views were beautiful, the Hochwurzen cable car was easy to reach, and there were restaurants nearby. Her recommendation, Tauernalm, was delicious. 10/10, would recommend!

When I got injured on a mountain trek, I had to head back to the village, and Elizabeth was great about accommodating us. She also had good suggestions for day trips around Schladming. The pension was lovely, the sauna was nice, and breakfast was delicious.
