Really good and clean.

A little paradise, with a really cozy atmosphere and a very comfortable place to stay. The hosts were wonderfully warm and welcoming when I stopped here overnight on my Danube Cycle Path trip.

The downstairs breakfast was passable, but the basement kitchen had definitely seen better days. Some jam or cream cheese from standard packages had already been poked around by other guests, which I found unacceptable. We left the beer in the fridge alone and brought our own, yet when a cap from our beer was left in the kitchen, we were suspected of taking something from the fridge without paying. This was a one-star stay at best. The Aichingers seem to rely on tourists who arrive by bike, boat or car, spend a night or two, then move on. During a longer stay, the landlady became noticeably distrustful, and things got uncomfortable. She was keen to get good reviews and asked where we had spent the day. It seemed to us she wanted to know whether we'd eaten at a restaurant that also rents rooms, and whether they'd tried to poach us. We decided we never wanted to return. If a creepy vacation is what you're after, go ahead. There are several monitors upstairs in the kitchen, watching every corner of the house. Guests can wander into this surveillance trap without realizing it. If you enjoy illegal video surveillance and a basement room with no shower or toilet, where both are reached through the hallway, this might be for you. Having to wait for the toilet at night because other guests are in the hallway or using it late is another part of the experience.
