The hotel is spotless, which must take effort with so many children around, and it’s clearly a credit to the management. I stayed half board over New Year; both the food and accommodation were high quality and had a typically Austrian feel. It’s family-run and works well for a family ski holiday. You’re nearly ski-in, ski-out, with just a 30-meter walk to the first blue run into Faschina. From there, you’ll need the ski bus to reach Damuls and Mellau. Damule and Faschina don’t offer much for non-skiers beyond the usual Alpine activities, but for a group of skiers or people improving their skills, Hotel Alphof makes a good base for an active break.

The evening buffet has plenty of variety, and breakfast is great. It’s a lovely family-run place, practically right by the slope, in the second row. I’d happily come back.
