Aparthotel Stacherhof

We loved how peaceful it was, along with the mountain views. You can walk around nearby and even get to a good restaurant on foot, though walking isn’t really what the location is set up for. Getting around the valley is easy: the main road is a minute away, and the most distant ski resort is about 45 minutes from the hotel, with several smaller options around 10 minutes away. The food was a real highlight. There are plenty of home-cooked choices, and breakfast was so good that we added it every day after not booking it at first. We came with friends in January and were very happy with our spacious, extremely clean “classic”-style apartment, which had everything we needed. The family who runs the aparthotel were attentive to everyone and always ready to help, with a smile.

The sauna was a new experience for me as a Canadian, especially the co-ed nude setup. I felt unsure the first few days, but gradually got comfortable, and people really don’t stare, which was refreshing. The relaxation room upstairs also has three saunas, tea, showers, and washrooms. I’m still a beginner with the language, but when I got stuck, the family could speak good English, especially the daughters. They helped with dinner bookings and advice on public transit and when to carry cash. For skiing, they can drive you to the nearest resort, the Spielhochbahn, or the free ski bus takes about 10 minutes to reach Hoch Zillertal, which has world-class skiing. Innsbruck is also easy to reach by train, with a 15-minute walk to the station. The place feels cozy and rustic but has modern comforts like a TV, oven, and dishwasher. There’s a ski gear drying room downstairs, and the apartment comes with a full kitchen, towels, robes, slippers, and good shampoo and body wash. The whole building smells lovely, like cedar and essential oils. The family’s hospitality and the cozy feel were incredible, especially compared with the heavy work travel I do in the US and Canada. Breakfast is included with half-board, fresh, local, and delicious, with lots of gluten-free choices. I told them ahead that I’m Celiac, and they had separate buns and cake ready at my table each morning. I can’t wait to come back. The Koch family made us feel welcome and cared for right from the beginning. Their communication was friendly, and they were always willing to help, which made our stay comfortable.

The architecture is lovely, and the interior combines attractive design with practical touches to create a special place to unwind. The owners treat their guests so well. The Koch family’s friendliness and kind, helpful communication added a lot to the comfort and enjoyment of our stay.
